When Nature Knocks on Your Door

Some mornings begin with a checklist. Others begin with a reminder.

This morning was one of those reminders. As my husband was about to send our youngest son to school, something caught my eye on the fence outside our home. At first, I thought it might be a fallen leaf or a small bundle of twigs. But as I looked closer, I realised it was a tiny bird.

It wasn't trapped. It wasn't tangled. It simply... stayed still.

We approached carefully, expecting it to fly away at any moment. It didn't.

There were no obvious injuries, yet it seemed exhausted, frightened, or perhaps simply in need of a safe place to rest.

So we did the only thing that felt right. We gently placed the little bird into a box, lined it with a soft cloth, and offered it some food and water. Rather than keeping it confined, we left the box open and placed it on our bedroom balcony, where it could enjoy fresh air, warmth and the quiet sounds of the garden. If it decides it is ready to fly, the sky is waiting.

Now, we wait.

Not every act of care requires us to have all the answers. Sometimes, kindness simply means creating a safe space and allowing nature to take its course.

Perhaps that's what nature teaches us best that every living creature deserves gentleness, and that even the smallest moments of kindness have a place in this world.

Today, our morning routine paused for a tiny feathered visitor.

And somehow, the day became a little more meaningful because of it.
